Everything you need
Fourteen independent switches. One focus mode. Zero page reloads. Set it once and YouTube gets out of the way.
Comments, recommendations, live chat, playlists, the header, the left menu and Shorts shelves on Home and search — each one a separate switch.
One switch hides all fourteen distractions at once. Perfect for lectures, tutorials, music, or finally watching the video you opened.
Rename any video. The new title appears on the page and in the tab, while the original stays untouched underneath. Titles live only on your device.
Press Alt + S or use the small button beside the title to hide everything temporarily. Your saved settings stay exactly as they were.
Your hiding preferences sync through your own Chrome profile, so they follow you to another computer without an account or a server in the middle.
No servers, no analytics, no advertising. Custom titles never leave your browser, and the extension never phones home.

How it works
One click from the Chrome Web Store. It runs locally on youtube.com and asks for only the permissions it needs.
Click the YouTube Shadow icon in your toolbar. The popup reads the video you are watching so custom titles apply to the right one.
Flip the switches you care about. Changes apply instantly, without a page reload, and are remembered next time.
Need silence right now? Press Alt + S on any watch page. Press it again to bring everything back.
Private by design
YouTube Shadow does not have a server, an account system, analytics or tracking. Your hiding preferences use the Chrome Sync you already have. Custom titles are stored only on this device.
Read the privacy policyThe extension sends no data and uses no third-party scripts or ads. This website uses Cloudflare's cookieless Web Analytics.
